Edge Green Cleaning: Community Recommendation Highlight

"Green cleaning is not only a product in a bottle, or one you make. It is a concept, a mindset and philosophy." - Suzanne Polsinelli, CEO, Edge Green Cleaning
Edge Green Cleaning logo - a white square and green circle are intertwined around the word EDGE in all capital letters, green cleaning is underneath, with green in the color green, and cleaning in white

Founded in 2006, Edge Green Cleaning's company philosophy is to "clean green, educate green, and enjoy a healthy environment."

Clean green: "Green cleaning is not only a product in a bottle, or one you make. It is a concept, a mindset and a philosophy."

Educate green: "If you research back in history, they were green cleaning. Food grade products were common in household cleaning. It wasn't until petroleum came about that as part of the war that they began adding it to products to increase viscosity and change how it impacted dirt on surfaces. The surfactants were man made and it took chemicals to make them work. The regulations were not in place to test the impacts of them or prolonged exposure." - Learn more on Edge Green Cleaning's Blog, and make sure to follow along for other educational opportunities in the community.

Enjoy a healthy environment: "I work with so many people who have Environmental Toxicity Syndrome, they cannot tolerate any additional exposures to anything without major symptoms. This is present in buildings as well. The toxic combinations of the building materials, cleaning products, and every single person walking in the door with their own list of toxins from their daily routine, is a lot for some people to tolerate. Moving cleaning products to a safer choice, is a very easy way to start to lighten the load that your family is exposed to."

This passion for green cleaning and creating a friendlier environment for families and co-workers comes from a personal place for Edge Green Cleaning's CEO, Suzanne Polsinelli:

"My son had asthma and every single time I cleaned, he got sick. No one could tell me why. I asked the hospital what products were safe to use and they could not tell me. That launched me on a mission. Once I learned enough to realize the chemicals were the culprit, I moved my entire company over to non-toxic. I never wanted our cleanings to cause harm to anyone."

Originally from the Ohio Valley, and calling Columbus home since 1995, Polsinelli and her mother combined their cleaning and corporate know-how to found Edge Green Cleaning in 2006 after the abrupt passing of Polsinelli's father. A quickly filled schedule led Polsinelli to run the company full time, and it's been full steam ahead ever since.

"Edge is very active in the communities we service. We do donations and volunteer efforts each month. I feel very strongly about giving back. There are so many in need. I try to choose diverse efforts so that we can help as many groups as possible." And this commitment to giving back has been reflected in Polsinelli's life as well, donating her time as a SCORE business mentor, coaching businesses through their start up and expansion phases, and offering classes in the past with cancer groups and the wellbeing group Mount Carmel My Time. "I love to volunteer and have a diverse group of causes that I spend time supporting."

Big updates are ahead for Polsinelli as she's working on launching her personal brand, enabling her to offer additional educational opportunities through "guest and keynote speaking to women's groups and at business conferences, teaching workshops, as well as writing."

While Polsinelli isn't working on business or volunteering, she enjoys "reading (probably too much), puzzles, baking and more recently found [dollhouse room kit] miniatures," and "I love all things family! I grew up near my grandparents and our big family gatherings. I try to keep that dynamic in our home and raising our children."

This understanding of family and corporate needs lets Edge Green Cleaning clients pick what services they need, as they need them. Residential services include standard and deep cleaning services, or a rotation package, while offices can choose from monthly, bi-weekly, or weekly cleanings. Readers of the Newsroom will be familiar with October's discussion on the intersection between home organizing goals and cleaning goals, and Organization Pending took the opportunity to ask an expert what else they wish clients knew before they reach out for services.

"I send a 'tips to prepare for our visit' to Edge clients as part of our onboarding process. It is mostly how to get the most for your money by being prepared. If I could tell any client something I wish they knew before they call, this is a no judgement interaction. We service clients in all situations and stages of life. Our job is to be here to help, even if you are not sure if you need cleaning services, a free estimate never hurts. Edge can tailor any service to fit the needs of the client."

"Out of respect for our diverse clientele and staff, Edge is a harmonious and respectful environment. As a company we focus on common interests and positive interactions. We strive to keep all of our clients and their families safe by conducting criminal background checks and checking the National Sex Offender Registry in the hiring process."

Company News

"Coming from a customer-forward background in libraries and retail, I understand how often people just need a little help from someone who can meet them where they are. Applying those principles to my business means really listening and exploring each client’s goals and needs within each room we’re working on, figuring out how each room functions within the home as a whole. It’s grabbing a tissue box when we find a sentimental item from a loved one who’s passed. It means honoring people’s time with clear hours, and making sure everyone’s on the same page with clear communication. It’s the attention to the details in client satisfaction that has led to over 70% of new clients finding Organization Pending through word of mouth."
