Columbus Decluttering Resources: Community Recommendations page updates
As a home organizer with a background in libraries, I'm always looking for the best ways to organize both physical items and information. And I am so grateful and happy to know that so many community members are able to make use of the Community Recommendations page, under Resources. As I'm nearing my 5th year in business, I've collected many local decluttering resources for non-landfill disposal, recycling, renewal, and donation, including around 30 locations I frequent most often for the client decluttering process.

As additional resources for specific donation needs were added to the page, and I've learned more about how clients and community members are searching for these resources, I knew I needed to reconsider how the Columbus Decluttering Resources were organized, especially the donation resources, as so many clients have been asking for donations to go towards Free Stores, or to specific non-profits and other organizations supporting local sustainability.
After careful consideration, Columbus Decluttering Resources is now four separate sections.
Non-Landfill Disposal: Includes resources for paper shredding, household hazardous waste disposal, composting, and alternatives to bulk/junk removal when appropriate.
Recycling: Resources for e-waste, clothing and wearables, and more.
Renew: Here you'll find resources for reselling a variety of items, upcycling clothing, and digitizing sentimental items.
Donation: The bulk of donatable items are usually clothing or common household goods, and Columbus has many options. In this section, you'll find organizations that resell your donated items to support a variety of initiatives, or you can scroll to "Clothing & Household Goods: Free Stores and Non-profits", "Specific Needs: Free Stores & Non-profits", and "Maternity & Baby: Free Stores & Non-profits". This Donation section also includes ways to list items for free local pick up, and organizations for specific donations of bikes, pet items, and more.

Notes from a Solopreneur's Life
As business continues growing, and additional donation and recycling resources are added, more time is being spent "off the clock" wrapping up details from client sessions: sorting through donations, recycling, and non-landfill disposal, dropping those items off in bulk, and researching the best product recommendations for my clients' needs through a changing landscape of availability and size specifications.
As the foundational aspects of Organization Pending are growing, I've come to the crossroads that every solopreneur faces: how do I balance my working hours with the background business aspects of being a solopreneur (accounting, website updates, social media and content creation, networking, events, etc.)? How do I achieve work-life balance after that, allotting time for family, volunteering with the organizations I'm involved in, and ensuring I also have time to relax and recharge so I'm functioning at my highest level?
Every six to twelve months, I perform a time audit of my processes and outcomes: where is my time and efforts best spent for what I want to achieve? How do I use my time and efforts to best serve my clients, family, and community?
One of the changes I'll be testing going forward is shifting the Newsroom from a monthly publication to a periodic one - still bringing you the Organization Pending and Upper Arlington decluttering news you want to know, Community Recommendation interviews, and decluttering and organizing discussions - but with an additional layer of intentionality and focus on the news that matters most to you.
See you in the next one! ~Tabi Berkey
